Brady Christmas Card

Even though our Christmas cards got out after December 25th, I'm still pretty excited about them. This was my first year doing something out-of-the-box and I love how they look like little packages tied up with string.

Three Day Blur

Christmas 2011 was fantastic...but crazy. With the holiday on a Sunday, I could use another weekend to recoup. On Friday night we went to my grandparents in the afternoon, then my parent's house, followed by church at 5:30, then to the inlaws for a few hours. Christmas morning with just my husband was fabulous and relaxing. Then we spent the afternoon with my mom's side of the family and the evening with Mike's family. And instead of coming home and crashing after a long day of family fun - I marched up to my office to wrap up a project due today. Monday was another busy day, brunch with my immediate family and the afternoon/evening with my inlaws. It was a whirlwind of a holiday, but it was great spending so much time with family.

Christmas is certainly not about the gifts but I did get some cool things like a  digital camera, terrarium, ottoman and picture frames.

On a side note, I think my tailbone is finally starting to heal up after falling on the steps a few weeks ago.

This Time of Year

I can't believe that it will be Christmas in two days. I felt so prepared in early December, but surprisingly enough, Christmas snuck up on me again. It's so easy to get wrapped up in the family plans, buying gifts and decorating the house. Somehow Jesus tends to get lost in the busyness.

Yesterday, I was listening to Pastor Mark Driscoll of Mars Hill Church's sermon "Humility" and it brought me to a great place before the throne of Christ. To remember what Jesus gave up to come to earth to save us, puts the entire Christmas season in perspective. In absolute humility Jesus left his place of glory to be born as a baby and placed in a dirty manger.

"Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross."

Merry Christmas!

Gift Certificates

I'll be adding this gift certificate to my Etsy shop later today. Gifting personal stationery, calling cards, birth announcements or New Years cards is an extra special present.

It has been great to see that an appreciation for stationery and paper products hasn't gone away. In recent years, handwritten cards have become more popular for 20-30 somethings - especially letterpress products. Because so much of our communication is now digital, it is extra special to receive an envelope from a friend in the mail!

Check out this great article in the New York Times entitled "Stationery in an E-mail Age."

Christmas Cards

                                                        instagram

Well, it's December 21 and my Christmas cards are still sitting on my desk. I suppose a consequence of designing your own elaborate cards is that they will not go out before Christmas. I'm really excited about the cards which include an infographic showing updates from 2011, a photo of the hubby and I, yellow baker's twine and a tag (photo above).

My goal is to have them mailed by Saturday, but considering that the photo isn't printed out yet, the odds aren't in my favor.

Are your cards out?

Another Blog

I am admittedly a flaky blogger. Last year I started a blog featuring both personal and cool wedding detail posts. Then I started cataloging my inspiration at Hello Design Cheer. And now... I'm starting a new blog that brings all of those things together. Tales of a Young Designer will be the combination of personal details, behind-the-scenes posts of Oneleven Creative, and awesome inspiration.

After quitting my full time job in corporate communications in August, I have spent the last few months trying to establish my freelance graphic design business. It has been the most challenging time of my career, but also the most rewarding.

Thanks for joining me as I catalog what life is like as a solo designer.
